Wednesday Personality of the Week – Dr Kwame Nkrumah
There will not be enough space to do justice to the personhood and symbolism of Kwame Nkrumah to all black people across the globe. He is known as one of the founding fathers of Pan Africanism and a great champion of African Unity. He is also a founding father of the Non-Aligned Movement which refused to support any of the Eastern or Western Power Blocs at that time – “We face neither East nor West; We face forward”. Mention any moment for freedom across the African continent and you will have a dose of Kwame Nkrumah in it.
He headed Ghana from independence in 1957 until he was overthrown by a coup in 1966. One of this famous quotes during the night of Ghana’s Independence was that “the independence of Ghana is meaningless unless it is linked-up with the total liberation of the African Continent”
Kwame Nkrumah was indeed a champion and I dedicate today to celebrate him during the Black History Month.
